The ol Buc be start'in this thread way back : when there be no Historic Truck Chat.

Now lets be start'in it again given there b many more 4M membas are on board since then. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Here be me ol post:

Remember the 70's? :-? :-?

Them early days when GreenFreight carted pulp rolls from Myrtleford to Melbourne along the Hume well before the bypass era.

At the time I remember they had a 1418 benz, (now ya know why the ol Buc be hav'in his afflickshun ta the ol frauline :o ::) :o) KW, UD, 2150a Acco, Leyland Marathon to name a few with depots in Myrtleford and Albury.

Many a trip for me in the 'ol jermin jigger' as Swishy would say.

I was only a boy them days and Joe Stapleton was behind the wheel.

The ol benz did well but she was work'in cartin those big rolls of loo paper. :P :P

The ol Buc remembas a bloke called Cookie that drove the UD and had his missus and new baby on board. 8-)

Would be glad to hear if anyone else remembers those old GreenFreight days. :)

Well :-? :-? any of ya new blokes be able ta provide sum input ta me ariginal post. :-? :-/ :-?

Regards, Buc. :)

Jeeez Buc,I could have yelled over the back fence...
The Leyland you mentioned, was a Crusader.Don Hughes bought this truck new,and later sold it to Greenfreight.Don then went on and worked for Freddie Green in the Myrtleford workshops.
I bought the crusader in 1977 from Brian Thompson in Shepparton, and traded it in on a Road boss in 1979,at the time of the blockade.
We also carted a lot of pulplog to Bowater Scott in Melbourne.
The Froulines were everywhere.ABT had a fleet of them, some with Bartlett airbag pushers and 8 and9 foot spreads on behind. They did it easy as 200HP was considered more the enough.
They also had them on the Sydney run.I drove one on this run myself.Great satisfaction passing 237 Macks up Razorback with 20 ton on from West Footscray Engineering to Borg Warner.
Was easy to get good HP out of the old 346's.
Nowadays they would not even drive one up the highway as a body truck.
You still see Greenfreight everywhere someone with more Knowledge on the subject than me should pick up the thread and run with it.
Come on all you old Freddies men, tell some tales!!!!!
