Sorry, didn't mean to be a smart arse. Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs.

The point was it is not taken into account on recordings. Now you regularly get the windchill factor in reports both on TV and papers - even though they usually say "It will be 6 degrees but feels like 1 degree" - I have heard often people claiming the windchill figure as the actual temperature.

I suggested Terry split the thread although it is a natural progression from pressure caps or just putting on an old fuel cap and their effect on cooling to discussion about freezing radiators.

As usual I have learned a bit about localised temperatures from the blokes and various opinions on whether vehicles are at risk or not. Always interesting trying to find the middle ground between anecdotal experience and official statistics. Both have their flaws but you can never stop learning. Never know, someone might take a tip from the high country blokes and save himself some money by not getting a frozen radiator or someone else in another area save himself some money by wasting his time with anti-freeze when not required.

Conversations die pretty quick if you stay on one subject, I like it when topics get a life of the own, like having a yarn at the pub or a rest area, this thread would have die after a couple of posts on subject, just my 2 bobs worth.
