The carriages are from the Mulgrave Rambler operation, Mulgrave Mill (Gordonvale, south of Cairns, Qld).
The loco isn't Mulgrave 1. My memory is that it is from Tully Mill, but I would have to check references.
The equipment came to Melbourne for an intended new operation near West Gate Park. I can't recall where everything was stored.
The next relocation was to Cresco (Long Island, Hastings). After eviction, everything came to Beamish.
There was hope to establish an operation along the Maribyrnong River waterfront in Footscray, regauging the disused broad-gauge line.
I haven't heard anything from the gossip mill re current plans.
Gardiner engines were quite popular in Australia for industrial locos, for trucks, for railmotors, and the Stony Point - Cowes ferry 'Eagle Star'. I am sure that many fishing trawlers had them too.

910928Sa Gordonvale (Qld) - Mulgrave Rambler. R Smith.
The steam loco had been converted to burn lpg or lng, and had only a driver, with no fireman needed.

Somebody went to a lot of trouble to convert that "mrsbitchie" van but it would be a handy vehicle for storing/carrying gear for the track maintenance guys.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

For Sarge. No, the Mulgrave Rambler carriages were purpose built. They were (and still are) fairly basic. The main operation ran from a special station near the mill, curved around, then headed up the Mulgrave valley to an orchid farm.
I now have the identities of the two locos at Beamish World.
Mourilyan Mill 11, 0-6-0 diesel hydraulic, built by Walkers in 1956.
Fairymead Mill 72, four-wheel diesel hydraulic, built by ComEng in 1961.
As with most sugar lines in Australia, 610 mm gauge.
