I started replacing the column shift gearbox on my 1940 Chev ute with a stick shift. Looked like exactly the same box. Got the old one out and the new one slid right in and mated up to the bell housing.
Bolt pattern is nowhere near! I have discovered the car column shift bell housing is different to anything else. Pre-1940 car with floor shift fits or any commercial bell housing from 15cwt ute right through trucks, including Blitz fits. Anybody within shouting distance of Brisbane got a bell housing? I guess any floor shift vehicle through to 1950's with 216 or 235 engine would fill the bill. This is the front of the gearbox.

I have been given one from a Chevrolet Blitz - fingers crossed for a fit.
