Wanted : The roof skin of the Autocar/White and Western Star cabs was the same from about 1959 until around 1992. I am chasing a new roof skin as part of our Autocar restoration.

Have tried Western Star without success

Anyone with any tips?

No idea were to get one from
A lot of this stuff can repaired quite successfully, I am fairly sure that these panels along with most others are no longer available leaving repairing the only option

Thanks Paul,

Looks like from the replies to this post, or lack of...repairs it will be !!!!

The roof skin we have resembles swiss cheese, with a great big hole in the middle where there used to be an airconditioner as a bonus...which we do not want in our Autocar resto.

As you say...anything can be restored...it's just how much time that you really want to spend. But Plan B it will be.

Out with the fibre glass kit and do a bit at a time which is better than none.

Hi, l've got a few skin repairs too, on my Road Commander though.

I'm not going near fibreglass for it but am considering the various alloy soldering rods about. Have you considered soldering an overlap joined piece over the a/c hole?

I also need a good TIG guy to repair some alloy cab structure in the front corners if you have Melb contacts.
Good luck, Duncan

If playing with steel panel these are a good tool.
The lip they put on stops/reduces buckling while welding
One of many out there
www.tradetools.com/product-range/air-too...unch-and-flange-tool .
For TIG welders you can always check alloy boat repairers, they are used to playing with corroded alloy.
Cheers Steve
