Hi, I am in need of any info on a Ud5 2 stroke engine. I am looking for a manual and info on where to get parts.

Parts were HARD to get for those back in the '80s...
Damn near impossible now I'd think
Try Maquarie, they imported most those things, back in the day..
PS; do search on here , I seem to remember a thread or 2 about them on here somewhere (I think)

Angry Ant,
if you have any luck, i would love to know. My next project once my w-model is finished is dad's F8000 with one of these.
I'm starting to think about the headache that i have in store about getting amongst the UD5 and have gone through posts on here last week to see if there were any leads and information but none at the moment.
The engine is complete, has not run since the early 80's but turns, i'm sure i will have alot in front of me before she's a runner...!
I love the idea that there aren't any of these around anymore, and to be different is cool.

Ryan,
Persavere with the UD5 mate.
Many trucks had them but Ive not seen one at a show and im sure there would be alot of people that would like to see and hear one. Take some heat of the GM's for abit
Be a few old timers that will swear at it but thats part of the history eh
For those of you that havent seen the internals of one of these hiroshima screemers they look suspiciously GM in their arrangement. Valve train, pistons, blower, oil cooler are almost identical to GM. Position of camshaft in block and cam follower setup is identical.
Fundamental difference between the UD and GM is the UD uses a normal old inline jerk type injection pump and injectors whereas the GM has unit injectors.
Ryan, sent you a PM.

It's been a long time, but from memory they sound very similar, I think a bit more noisy ,if that's possible.

I know of a UD8 engine. It powered a sand dredge out in the bush near Canberra. Apparently there were no birds in the trees where ever it was working.
