Just had a look at an English site and yes there are shims. The overhaul instructions say to play with them until you have the eyepleasing backlash.
But... they also say a number of the "heavier" models had screw adjustment in conjunction with the shims for adjustment without disassembly. They did not say what model of box or what vehicles they were fitted to. Looks like the majority of English cars had Bishop boxes either using that peg system on factory productions or straight Bishop contract supplied boxes.
Bendix-Bishop continue to this day on American cars. My Oka has a Bishop (power steering) box.but it is called a Kirby-Bishop very nice smooth steering box..
Whatever system Jacob has I think he has enough information for a bit of common sense to successfully attack any design Chrysler UK decided to put in their 1950's trucks.
