Wasn't it the thing back then that you displayed "Royal Mail" if you had a contract to cart the mail?

Ensured divine protection perhaps.

i reckon you might be on the money there Chas..

My Father had a Coach (with and engine at the back, not the 2 horsepower one of Raggsie's) that they used on the Brisbane-Kilcoy run had Royal Mail on the front. I vaguely remember displaying the sign if you were carrying mail gave you some sort of privelidge, what I don't recall.

Oldbob, is it an S40 cab? looks like a Crusader cab.

As soon as I saw that I thought it was an S40 cab but after what you said Cam, I compared it to Dave's Crusader.............I wonder if the Crusader and S40 shared the same cab, they look very similar?? :-?

Some play hard to get

G`day Bruce
You may be correct about base cab-- the cab used on s40 some ERF and Guy were the same metal cab but the front panel was fiberglass so differerent makes just designed the panel and used it on their Product--- what makes this cab S40 is the vent cover
infront of the driver which is pure Foden. But I will go and look at a Crusader down the road from me sometime--IDSTBC

Would that be him holding the reins?

Its a bit hard to see without me glasses, but i reckon you are on the money..
Looking at the gearshift to his right, i'd say definately, as he always ran overdrive boxs in his coaches as he mostly ran express.. :D
That would be a very early photo too, as it was even before Melbourne Road was dirt...

In keeping on topic though, i don't think he drove for Gascoynes, but i't tippin he would know someone who knew someone who did...
