That 1931 Adolphus Coach was one heck of a nice looking, well appointed jigger. Built for el Predidente of Buick, just goes to show what can be achieved with an unlimited budget.
Puts me in mind of some of the earlier Pullman railway coaches, or some of the luxurious cabin cruisers built in the same era. Saw many years ago a cruiser on the Hawkesbury River, about 40 or 50 feet in length, powered by twin Chrysler 6 cylinder "Sea Jeep" flathead petrol engines, or so I was told that's what they were called.
Hate to be running anything like that, or the Adolphus for that matter, at today's fuel prices.
Still, I suppose if you could afford to own something like that, the last thing you would be worried about is running costs. Or insurance.
Just on running costs, years ago if you could average 4 mpg out of your trusty Screamer or Cummins NH engine you were probably doing OK. With capacities around the 600-700hp considered normal, what sort of mpg would THEY be getting? Don't work in lit/km, too hard to understand for this old goat.
