this last one looks like it would have been a flash bit of gear in its day and no free loaders as there is only one seat

Puts me in mind of very early Leyland or AEC crane carrier jiggers!

Dima, he refers to the half-cab used on UK-made crane carriers and also on buses. Actually the Tidholm looks very much like a converted English bus (I know it's not). And by the way, Kenworth tried something similar with their CBE (Cab Beside Engine) in the late 50s and early 60s, and it was not a success.
