When I put photos up on the net I put them at lo res, ie less than 300kb. That is enough for people to see them but not good enough for professional publication.

You have to be careful that the picture in question is yours in the first place
I had a spot of bother a while back where I was accused of borrowing a picture and the chap was starting to get nasty BUT luckily a third person noticed in the back ground there was one small difference and it all went quite also I was not the only person taking pictures from the same place/angle and I know some ended up on face book
Pinching the story!!, that crap should not happen

Having placed a few related tales on the forum for the enjoyment of others,as well as many more learned scribes contributing for others to read.
This has been done for all to enjoy.
If these tales or photos have been pirated,so be it , but some form of gecognition as to the authers would be appreciated.........If not,at least it was wurth the effort to to think someone thought it was good enough to steal.!!!

The copyright act does make provision for copying things for research and study purposes see www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca1968133/s40.html
This does not mean copying large amounts of a work or claiming others photos as your own.

Its probably like leaving a 20 dollar note on ya front fence....
People might look at it and keep walking.
Others may pick it up, examine it and put it back where they found it.
Some may pick it up and keep it..
One or two may ask if they could have it..

If the 20 is important to you....don't leave it on the front fence where someone has access to it...
Writing your name on it, unfortunately won't stop someone from taking it and spending it.

A photo or word is no different, once it is posted, it is gone....

Hold the thought that you made someones day the day you posted it...

Keep on on truckin

chocs 8-)

Putting watermarks to spoil a photo is like you being an entertainer trying to tell the people in the cheap seats up the back they can only listen to half the words of the song because the people up front paid full price.

You post freely on the forum "for forum members" 99% of whom you have never met. We are a cross section of the community with our share of cheats, liars, thieves and murderers. Out in the world are thousands of other good people who have sufficient interest in your photos or articles to show to even more interested people.

Sure it is annoying when recognition is not attached - I have seen many articles and photos I have done for magazines etc in other places, often credited to some stranger. But why did you put it up in the first place? If not to make money professionally (then it should be protected) it can only be to share your interest and enthusiasm for the photo or article with others.

If you don't want your stuff used, don't put it on the web and restrict your viewing to Sunday evening lounge room slide shows for invited friends and family. Putting it on the web and complaining is like a well endowed girl at the beach in a skimpy top and g-string saying "What are you staring at!"

Ya,
As a sometimes photo poster myself. . .

Once it's in the public domain, it's gone.

It would be anoying to see it used for someone-elses profit but what can you do?

Post it as a gift to the world.

Just don't you publish it yourself for a profit without acknowlegement.

Travel with a light heart.
