We have one of those "rocket scientists" in Main Roads here in the West who figures closing overtaking lanes on our holiday weekends will improve traffic flow.
Can just see more people taking risks to overtake the dawdlers.

Those "rocket scientists" seem to be everywhere. Citylink in Melbourne, who control the tunnels on the "Freeways" (A freeway you have to pay use is surely not a freeway?) close one lane in times of heavy traffic.

Their excuse is that if there is an "incident," (they mean a crash) emergency vehicles can get there via the closed lane. What a pity somebody doesn't tell them that if there is a crash that closes the tunnel, emergency vehicles can enter the tunnel from the opposite end, as they do whenever necessary on all roads, anyway.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!
