Harleigh,

Permatex is the common goo in the bible. Both hard setting and resilient.
It seems to be a common question so over the next few days I will put together a list of the recomended products and the particular joints where used for the 71 and 53 series for everyone and post it in the tech section. I will take same pics also and post of particular problem areas and cures.

Here are the answers to the last few questions. I will let you pool over them for the day and post some pictures and supporting evidence tonight from my home PC. Work one wont let me do it.
Okay here we go :

2 . The largest marketed 71 series was the 32V-71 otherwise known as the twin 16.
This engine was two 16V-71

Monty,

Good point and as it happens I have made a completely wrong statement back a couple of posts ago.
So I will correct myself now :
The 12V-71 and 92 have there own one piece cranshaft.
The 16V-71 and 92 have a front and rear shaft joined as with the 16V-149. They are dowelled and bolted.
Shafts are reffered to as front and rear crankshafts.
Ive never had a 16 cyl 71 or 92 to bits only a 149 with the joined crank.
In the case of the 149 each half is as used in the 8 cyl and are balanced independantly of each other.
Series crankshaft issues can result with these engines if the block to block joint is not perfect.

Again I appologise for my incorrect statement regarding the 16V having a one piece crank...its the 12V. :-[
