Bazza you Prick, hehehehe LOL ;D

You Have a Distinct advantage Just because you Live, breath, spend every waking moment occupied with GM, I even bet you sleep immersed in GM manuals stuffed in to your doona, pillow, pyjamas, mattress protector and sheets. You eat GM bixx of a morning, Read GM manuals on the bog, Drink GMah tea, Blend 673 coffee.

Any way this is my effort, others can feel free to copy my effort if they feel it will give them the edge, hope fully this has clearned out the cobwebs. Well done Bazza, or should I say Mr GM. heheheh

1 . In what year did GM Diesel division change its name to Detroit Diesel and why ?
1988: Penske Corporation buys a portion of the company and together with GM spin Detroit Diesel Corporation off as a separate company
2 . What was the largest 71 series marketed ?

8 . What engine is a 8083-7000 Detroit ?

92 series, 8 Cylinder, Industrial, Right Hand Rotation, Oil cooler on right, starter on left if viewed from behind, 4 Valve head.

(How did I go?)

6 . What was the first engine block ever cast at the Fishermans bend Holden plant for ?

Not sure, but I have restored and display a Detroit from a WW2 Grant Tank GM6046 (6-71)... Perhaps it was cast in Melbourne! :o

9 . What year was the last two stroke Detroit built ?

I believe they are still produced today for the US Military.

1. dunno what year they changed threr name, but they started using the name detriot diesel so they would not be confused with gmc trucks, because they were supplying engines too all kinds of truck manufactures
2. i belive the largest 71 series was either a 12/71 or a 16/71
3. no exhust valves on a 53 series
4. i belive the biggist 53 series was a 6/53
5. dunno
6. i would say the 1st engine they cast would have been a grey moter for the 1st holden(but i only guessing)
7. i would guess the oil cooler is on whatever side you want it on, (but i may be wrong)
8.dunno, never heard of one
9.i think they are still building the two stroke detroits in the states(but i may be mistakin)

8 . Spot on with the 8V-92. Fan to flywheel industrial.
6 . You are close enought with your answer here also. Gray marine 6-71 block.
aussie l plate
1 . I will give you this one. GM Diesel division took on a large contract to supply International Harvester. Part of the deal was that Inters did not want the name General Motors associated with IHC. It was 1965 the name officially changed. Then it changed again a few years later but thats for a different quiz.
2 . Try again
3 . Correct. I believe you meant 51 series.
4 . Try again
5 . Keep trying
6 . Monty and VK3UAO have this one.
7 . Correct. Oil cooler can be either side.
8 . VK3UAO has this one.
9 . You are correct. They are still making 6V-53TIA DDEC donks for the army.
10 . Keep thinking.

Basil :)
