Yes that is one way of looking at it..
Another way would be to consider a few cold facts.
For a transport company that has been in business since the late 1940s to have survived until now in this dog-eat-dog industry requires exceptional business acumen.
Turning over trucks is a fact of life to stay competitive.
We all love the old gear but unfortunately they don't cut it in the modern world.
There are exceptions to this , but not all that many.
Twenty years ago we were an all IH fleet.
The old S-Lines , T-Lines , Transtars and 3070s that were good soldiers were pensioned off to be replaced by Kenworths years ago.
We had to to remain competitive with the introduction of B-Doubles etc.
JLP had to do the same , as did many many other firms.
Nobody knew until relatively recently that there would be an interest in the older trucks.
Having said that , I'm damn sure that if you asked a driver to drive an old buggy around nowadays you would not be taken too seriously.
The idea of business is to make money above all else.
Having heaps of older vehicles around doesn't contribute much to your bottom line.
Having them as static displays or parade vehicles doesn't either.
Basically unless your name is Fox you can't afford to not get rid of older trucks for newer..
I would have loved to have seen all these older companies keep the old stuff , however it's not always feasible.

...realistically .. B doubles have changed everything..

..engine power, driveline quality, freight rates, docking, training, ....where does it end ?..and i will add, almost always ..a positive step

................and to add to what you guys all said, some people just don't give two hoots about old trucks or history.

I was at a do a couple of weeks ago and met Lance Fisher who has been running the workshop, speccing trucks and controlling the drivers habbits at John L's for over 35 years. I'd heard a lot about him and how drivers refer to the Pierce trucks being 'Lance-i-fied' as they're all limited to under 100km/h, have smaller horsepower and safety as a key factor.

Where am I going with this? I told him about the Peterbilt that is ex-Pierce's and was shown on the forum here for sale. He told me that the current owner had contacted the Pierce brothers to say that it was up for sale and that they contemplated it and then said "what do we want with an old truck".

Quite simply, some people prefer to play golf in their spare time............... :)

Some play hard to get
