You've got nothing to lose, Scratcha!! Get a bottle of Coca Cola and pour some into each plug hole and let it sit awhile. This'll act like the molasses does (sugar-based, see?) and could very well free up the engine. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]The other thing is the engine is solidly seized

I think you will find a Holden red motor might be both more in keeping and a lot easier to fit. A 1940's Chev 219 would also look very close to the Bedford motor. Both will have more go than the original Bedford.
There also must be a lot of Bedford J model engines around to remain racially pure and should just bolt up.
In the end it is what you want so go for it. Nice truck.

thanks fellas, Id forgot about the coke trick (if i use bundy & cola it might even fire up!)
the 6 cyl chevs go up to 265 capacity i believe, just bits are getting harder to get.
And the 6.4 to 1 sounds more like it, top speed of 38 mile per hour! CRACKIN' :

Hi,
with regards to the seized motor, you could also try pouring boiling water through the cooling system to get the block to expand from the pistons. No harm in trying both the coke and boiling water.

Couple more photos for your viewing pleasure...
Pulled the cylinder head, piston crown rusted to the bore, got the slug freed up, but the bore is pitted.

Ill be looking for a new donk i recon!

If the pitting is above the travel of the piston rings it shouldn't worry things too much. With what looks like water being in the motor it may pay to check the condition of the big end shells though.

A hotted up red motor with a trick TriMatic?
Tonnes of easy to get and fit bits.
A fun easy drive?
It's not going to be a heavy duty "working" truck ya?
just saying.

Got the guards off tonight, still no rust found!
The last photo, what is it? my guess is an oil filter, but ive no idea how it would be serviced!
Only broke one bolt too!
Tomorrow grill, radiator and hopefully cab off.
King pins are flogged, steering box loose (at mounts) bushes worn!......bugger all to do!
