yeah what DD said, although supposedly early blocks only had one groove - the addition of the second was an upgrade. Luckily all grooves appear good. Unfortunately after a proper look at that crank it too needs a regrind - quite a bit of the stain goes quite deep. I'm still just about OK though - so far my total parts bill is not quite $800, so I can manage a regrind. But I still can't get better than $500 for just the big ends, $800+ for a whole crank. Have tried Retorque in tamworth (the cheapest), a couple in newcastle, one in orange and one in woollongong. They all do a crack test at $150 or more. I was thinking I could do a three aerosol test for myself but it seems the grinders worry. There's someone in Mudgee who doesn't have them time... Anyone know of anyone that could do a grind for the sort of price DD was talking about but vaguely in my (dubbo/mudgee) area?

Also, is there a way to remove the camshaft oil slingers without wrecking them?

You might be able to get a good second one for less than a grind....

Yeah maybe I should ask. I did consider it early on but then I thought no way - any seller would hike hike the price right up... I did talk to that bloke (Paul) about new parts and will probably use him as he'll trade my unwanted marine parts so might give him a call soon about a crank. It's just frustrating everyone wants so much to grind now

.
.Well.............
The jimmys have always been a bit pricey to grind because there is a separate setup for each big end journal ..............

had quite a long chat to paul today, still planning on using him for parts. Only crank he can find is one out of WA for $690 which needs grinding anyway... Will make a few calls tomorrow but if anyone knows of a good used crank or two (probably doing up two motors now - uncle will pay for parts for both in return for a runner)

Have you tried CPF Detroit Specialists in Brissie ? So much DD stuff lying around there I would be surprised if they could not help and I have always found their prices very reasonable.

thanks for the leads - denham looks good but haven't been able to get him yet. CPF were friendly but wanted $800 for a crank that needs machining... Might have found one elseware though

So decided on retorque in Tamworth to grind as they're the closest and cheapest. My transport fell through though so still waiting on someone driving up :(

About to pull the trigger on some parts, but before I do - one more used part assessment. Haven't measured it yet but does this pin look reusable?
