We are back to working on the Dodge after putting it aside for several months whilst we concentrated on the Fargo. In the last couple of weeks we have fitted the spring packs and axles. Today we put on the wheels and the chassis rolled for the first time in 60 years. We fitted the engine this afternoon. We think we will make the November 2017 target.

Hi Geoffa
Nothing to do with your reto, although I have been following it with great interest
I take note at cleaver things. The braces on the gantry angle iron welded on the pipe first, on a bench then easy welds to the post, cleaver Keep up the great work keep the posts coming
Cheers Fill

Jim,

The Fargo is painted in Andirondack Green No10, a colour used by International Harvester on the their trucks in the 1950’s. We restored an International truck that was originally painted in this colour. We liked the colour and had some paint left over from that restoration, so we decided to paint the Fargo this green as it was also very close to the original paint on it.

The Dodge is being painted in Welland Red, a GMH colour used in the early 1960’s on EK, EJ and EH Holdens, Toranas and Bedford trucks. I had a Mercedes Benz truck repainted in this colour in 1973, I thought it was a great colour and it is very close to the original red paint on the Dodge.

Fill,

You are very observant, yes, that is how it was welded together. By doing it this way all the welding was done horizontally, much easier to get a good weld. Often with a bit of planning, a better angle to do the welding can be found.

Geoff.
