Where are you Slospeed

Regardless of how it is fobbed off, i still stand by what i have said, and the numbers speak for themselves the real contributors to this forum are slowly leaving, correctly formed groups on facebook, can be, and are run as democratic as any forum, page's can be specific just specialising a type of vehicle or general vintage pages,there are horses for courses, to generalise and say facebook as a whole is a dictatorship just confirms to me that the one -eyed moderators of this forum will never change , VTA is moderated as any other, with language, and manners, real concerns are addressed, rather than just leave ,i will say that i am disappointed that you don't take a serious look at yourselves just an observation "Assessor"

As a former Publican for 20 years, I can assure you this discussion and its causes are quite mild. That people chose to convey their courage of convictions is really rather admirable, be it resigning or writing an opinion.

I don't own an old banger, nor is it even remotely likely. I do, however have a passionate interest in the preservation of this countries history and the people and vehicles that made it possible. My childhood was spent living behind the old Sundowner Hotel in Punchbowl. Sundays were no driving days, so there were lots of trucks parked up in the paddock behind the pub. I could pick the different waggons by their airstart or exhaust noise. The blokes that drove them were tough men with opinions and attitudes to match. I saw many fist fights and "heated discussions" , yet, a few weeks later, they would all be helping each other changing wheels etc.

We all have ideas and ideals. Often there is disagreement or dissent. Usually there are solutions. Time heals most things. That a number of blokes have resigned from this forum is regrettable, but that is their right. Their legacy remains, and those of us who live vicariously through their restorations etc. remain totally indebted.

So endeth the rant.

Also no matter what you do cant make everyone happy at the same time. we are all individuals.

As for the differences between this forum and other forums or even facebook. This forum is a public forum so any one can read it. And it is the HCVC forum. So anything that could reflect badly on the HCVC by allowing a post to be illegal or inappropriate can't be allowed. At the least we could lose this forum or at worst the HCVC could get into big trouble. Something none of us I'm sure would want to occur.

Many of the facebook sites and other personal created forums don't have this to consider so can allow things that we simply cant. Especially if they are closed groups then they can simply do what they like.

And add or remove who they want to the group without being answerable to anyone.

Remember a cuple months back a member of this forum was battered from piller to post to a point where he was told he didnt no what he was on about coz he was a farmer not a trucky.He didn't spit the dummy as swishy puts it but kept fighting on and at the end was prooved rite.He receved not 1 apolgy from anybody wich to me discribes the egos of sum of the members on this forum.
This forum has lost alot of very nologable members.

As I said, "in a nutshell". Just a quick and simple summary of the fundamental difference between the way this forum has to run and how facebook groups could be run.

At the end of the day this discussion is about explaining why this forum has to operate differently to some other venues and recognising that there are places for all tastes.

Well they come they go but either way weather they've left on not, they still seem to keep an eye on it. Lol.

We will never keep everyone happy that is a fact.

JBs comments are as pertinant as Swishys and he is also the perfect example of someone who has or had enough of putting up with some of the flack that comes with being a moderator that he has stepped back, no big statements of deleting a profile or anything else, just sit back and take a back seat, and he most certainly isn't the only one who has taken this option.

I've seen quite a few people who have deleted themselves come back in another name, and I'm sure others still keep an eye on it.

To keep it in perspective a forum is only a place for social interaction, as Bparo says, like a conversation at the pub, if you don't like the coversation it is easy to ignore it, don't log on.

The moderators here don't delete members unless there is a really as in really good reason, and I can only think of one case of that apart from being a spammer.

So it's a big wide world out there, it's up to yourself how you interact in it.
