Think the 6V53 was around 180hp, really had to work them hard to find the last 20 though and they occasionally dropped a valve.
One local bought the 6V53 powered Loadstar with Allison autocratic. Was forever swapping cogs, never seemed to find the right gear for the job but you knew it was coming.
Then all those re-powers like the Commer, labour must have been cheap.
When you factor in the cab work, radiator, air filter/exhaust, extra fuel capacity and so on, all for approx 50 more hp.
And you'd quickly find the gearing was wrong so then she needed a crown wheel/pinion swap.
Never saw a 6v53T fitted but the extra hp just might have made all the hassle a proposition.

Did Detco end up at Girraween. I remember seeing a company there owned by Frank Parker, fitting an V8 GM to a MAN, in IPEC or REX colours. I guess we all remember what the anagram for IPEC was.

Billy p do you remember a bloke from out your way called Darcy Campbell. He had a R180 with a (Ithink )6-53 with a tipping trailer. It used to make a hell of a racket but went pretty well. I think it had some kind of roadranger in it. cheers Don

Hi guys, In the early seventies, Philbey's Transport from Lameroo S. Aust. had a Commer with an 8V53 GM fitted by DETCO in Adelaide. It went like the clappers and sounded magnificent but unfortunately didn't outlast the chassis that it was in. Eventually got replaced with a straight 6-71. Philbeys were subbying for Vaughan Transport into Sydney around this period but not necessarily with that primemover.
