Must be oldtimers setting in. I completely forgot I owned one of these about 1982. Found it at Collinsville in North Queensland bought it for $300 and drove it back to Bowen, where I was working, at night, unregistered with no lights (just my mate driving in front with the ute to show me the way)

It had been re-engined with a 671 GM and not having used this engine before I did not realise that hundreds of litres an hour bypass the engine back into the tank so we pissed the fuel all over the road, ran out and woke up a farmer who syphoned 40 litres out of a Bulldozer - at midnight. After hooking up a garden hose to get the fuel back into the tank instead of the road we made it home.

Most wonderful truck to drive. Amazingly light steering almost synchro-like gearbox. First gear with the engine on the governor was 2mph but it cruised about 40 mph which is pretty respectable.

I thought I did good when Townsville Truck Wreckers offered me $1,800. It went to a gold mine back of Cooktown so I understand. Wish I still had it. It must be out there somewhere.

That's great info Lang, what a beautiful machine. Those shockies that Detective is talking about, are they the two things on either side of the grill that look like tops of gas bottles?

Some play hard to get

Cunning,

If you go to the link I put up a few days ago above, there is a good cutaway drawing and explanation of those shockers.
