Intermania- that 130 is a gem.

My view is that (with my own vehicles anyway) I would only do what would have been either a factory option, or a modification possibly made during the original working life of the vehicle. The original engineers and designers might have had their limitations, but they weren't stupid, so work with them not against.

A full matching numbers vehicle? Leave it the hell alone!

I was just looking to see if many others felt the same way as me.

In threads covering forum members builds and restos I don't think I have seen a bad one yet, and some have been absolutely stunning. It is a pleasure to see the work being done here.

Grant.

In Post 20 of this thread, Cunning Stunt said;
"This topic comes up time and time again on forums everywhere and is a bit stale. All it does is stir everyone up."
And in Post 31,
"As an avid hotrodder, and having been a part of the rebuild of countless vehicles while I was in business over the first 10 years of my career. . .
. . .I can and do appreciate everything and as much as I get your reasoning, and trust me, I do, this site is for restored vehicles not heavily modernised/modified ones."

and

"The site for that is The HAMB (which I'm also a member of )."

So, I took Cunnings tip and went over to see what H.A.M.B. www.jalopyjournal.com/ was all about. Joining is not hard, and it too is free. The site itself is very similar to this one (perhaps an upraded or even a next generation version) so navigation through it will not be a mountain high learning experience.

I have looked around the H.A.M.B. site for a few hours now and can confidently say that while I did indeed find a few of;

These

Some of this,

And much to my personal delight,
this.

None of the above jumps out at you and very little of what HAMB does specialise in (cars) seems to be newer than the 1970's.

(not unlike HCVC in it's way.)

However, while trolling though other stuff, I inadvertantly found;

www.hotrodders.com/
and it looks even more contemporary and hot rod interesting.

HCVS is HCVS and does what HCVS does.

Like Cunning said;
"this site [HCVS] is for restored vehicles not heavily modernised/modified ones."

In the future, I have decided that Bobsboy will not participate in the "Hot Rod or HCV" debate on this site.
I now know the answer.

If we need a hot rod fix, we should go to a hot rod site.

cheers

I am rebuilding a J1 Bedford. (massive progress) If I or my wife could upload pics easily; would my choice of colour make me/our truck, (not original) a hot rod???

Gday Brian

Doesn't really matter what 'others' classify it as..

Wont matter what color it is, it will still be your Beddy..
That's all that matters...

Bobsboy, try www.ozrodders.com/forum/index.php
Sort of an Australian equivalent, got some neat stuff on there as well as quite a few utes/pick ups.
There are a couple of threads on there on AR/L/S 110's that have been hot rodded, some on Holden chassis, and a K5 I think Inter with a 4/71 in it that the owners have started threads on here only to be shouted down by a couple of negative types.
Funny thing is, the utes don't seem to fit 100% with the hot rodders either. Always seems to be someone to rain on someone else's parade.
Anyway, it's worth a look and there is some pretty good engineering on a lot of it too.

Thats right Cam, Ozrodders can be a bit negative but like this forum and countless others, there'll be the odd few who make a stink over something they don't like where the majority (most of them silent) will sit back and enjoy it for what it is.

Better on the road in any guise than rusting away in the back paddock. ;)
