This old truck is still on the farm, minus tray & hyd equip, could be worth buying for spares, in good condition for its age, dont expect it for nothing, farmer who owns it would be reasonable!!

i used 3m automix 8115 adhesive. It's panel glue, but was told it would do the job and its cheap. A lot of shaping with a half round file and lots, and lots, and lots of sanding then 2 pak black.

Can I suggest another compound for this job? Apoxie Sculpt. Apart from being organic and non toxic it is water soluble when green meaning that all the shaping, smoothing and blending can be done with wet fingers! Being 2 part stays green for 10 minutes odd then soft carveable for another 10 minutes odd, fully set in an hour. When set it is sandable, drillable, tappable and harder than 8115
Really great for restoring hood ornaments, trim, window winders etc etc
I get the Aves Apoxie Sculpt through Barnes in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisvegas...their website is worth exploring for all of the good gear when doing resto work.

and here is some more details
