Outer post is 2" RHS (heavy wall) inner post 1.5 inch. Four reinforcements are welded from the corners of the RHS to the corners of the base.
Outer post is welded to a 3" flat bar welded across the centre of the base. I would not construct jack stands using lesser size material or a smaller base than these. Several that I have seen for sale in auto parts shops I would not use even under a light car.
Remember stands often finish up under heavier things than they were originally made for.

Totally agree. Made a set of stands over 25 years ago (owned 2 XC Falcons @ the time) . Angle iron base 270 mm square, min height 350mm, max 520mm.overnite wrote:

I'd like a much bigger base and some gussets to stabilise the pipe.
Call me a wimp!
Not a whimp. Just common sense. I wouldn't put a billycart on them. You only get one life. Safety 1st, 2nd,3rd and whatever comes after that.

Fill, I like the others have enjoyed your inventive creativity, the Stanley blade was good but the coffee table is pure genius,
SHE gets an awesome & very popular retro industrial coffee table (a gift from you because you care) and you get to keep your chassis trolley where it will always be able to be found and not buried out the back of the shed under two tonne of scrap parts in long grass and mud....

You can see the springs either side of either side of the brake cylinder
