Hi Bryant,
Been following progress on the Dodge, looking the part!

Actually, I am curious about the original 4/203 Perkins, can you remember that far back, when you first reefed her out? 4/203's are getting on a bit nowadays, was wondering if it had the original Dodge 4 speed bolted to it, as I said, at the time. Wouldn't have actually been over-endowed with power, I wouldn't imagine? Probably as honest as the day was long though. Probably also running a pretty low speed diff ratio as well?

Cheers, Dave

Mate, it occurred to me (as I pulled an Inter apart some time ago) you need to do the pins up FT, then do the lock-nuts up FT, then back the pins off to get the split-pins through the castellated nuts, leaving the nuts FT on the plates. Otherwise you get the effect you found - flogged out everything. I have pulled them apart with the nuts backed off to get the split-pins through to find what you found - oval shaped holes and grooves where threads used to be on the pins.

Jarrod.

Hi Dave I still have the little Perkins still sitting in the blue dodge it appears to be bolted up to the original 4 speed nu process box drove it up the drive way a few times seemed to have plenty of torque :) from what I was told by the previous owner the farmer used this dodge to drive around his large grain farm out west . Jarrod I will take your advice between the oval shaped holes and the flogged out bushes the spring hangers were on quite a lean hopefully when I reassemble them they will be nice and straight or a lot better lol :D cheers Bryant

Ok a quick updated this weekend I've managed to fit the new front shackel plates and pins to the rear of the front springs what a differance this makes before both sides were on quite a lean now there sitting nice and square ! . The front shackels were next this is just a pin and basic rubbers so I managed to take out the right hand front pin to find out that the pin was in bad shape so I've phoned every were in search of a new set of pins with no luck :'( so I talked to a good mate of mine as he is an old school truck mechanic he suggested I buy 2 grade 8 bolts with nylock nuts the same size as my original pin and enlarge the hole on the outside bracket to slide the bolt through this has worked well I also managed to match up the rubbers at a local auto shop and it all went together like a brought one . Now this morning I manager to get out the rear spring hanger pins they came out with no fuss but the bottom of the hanger is flogged out bad so I'm on the hunt for some better units as I'm sure the other side will be just as bad . The next step after I finish the spring pins and bushes will be a new set of kingpins and new brake lines . Cheers Bryant

I haven't posted for some time due to work commitments but over the last week I've made some more progress the first blue 114 I brought has been stripped down for its parts and the chassis has gone to china :'( as it was in very poor condition . On closer inspection the cab off the blue AT4 I've decided to repair the rusted floor pans and keep the yellow truck complete apart from its running gear I know this all sounds very confusing but there's method in my madness :D . The front end is now finished apart from fitting the new tie rod ends shocks and steering box next on the list is new brake lines i hope to get these done in the next couple of weeks regards Bryant :)

Looking good. I got new rubber brake hoses for my inter from bursons for $30 each. They look identical to yours. I thought i would have to get them made up. Keep it up.

This might be a bit late, but these guys have a good selection of pins.

www.industrialsprings.com.au/shklpins.htm (in SA) and provide an excellent mail service.

They can make to order too.

btw, the easiest way to remove the bush in the spring or hanger is to run a hacksaw cut along the bush and then push it out.

Trying to press it out with out the cut can sometimes compress the casting and then you've got to make up the gap.
