Being married into a Police family (yep, 5 of them, from Supt. FIL, to Snr. Sgt. BIL, and constables and detectives amongst the rest) I can see an unroadworthy truck, with a broken wheel stud, and no mudguard fitted.
An infringement notice is bound to follow .. 8-)

Very good you fellas. Maybe it does need some work for a roadworthy. It is just a chassis and axles/wheels with a 500 gallon water tank on it.

Swishy. I think the grass under it has been sprayed with weedkiller. There was plenty of green grass elsewhere around it.

Geoff - Single wheel, full-floating axle, with no ability to fit duals (no protruding machined section on hub), indicates no more than about a 1

Kenny-Mopar. I would say yes.

Onetrack. We spent the afternoon and night at the back of the Tavern in our motorhome a few feet from the remains of the truck. (Free camping site courtesy of the tavern). I had plenty of 'happy hour' time to sit and study the wheels. You are right about not being able to use these wheels in a dual wheel configeration. If you look closely at the section of the wheel where the studs holes are, it can be seen to be recessed from the raised portion of the wheel just outside it. Therefore the wheels have no flat mating surface to be tightened against each other if fitted back to back. Plus there is almost no 'dish' in the wheel to provide spacing between the tyres in a dual wheel set-up.

I think you are right. A Q15 or Q25 Commer about 1950.

Check out Mark Johnson's restoration of one on.

Go photo gallery. Australian photos. Might even see another Commer you will recognise.
