Pressure Protection Valve
Was wondering if anyone can help me. When i fire up my k124cr there has always been a loud "hissing" noise coming from inside the centre dash. This hissing noise i have found out is coming from a pressure protection valve, there's a little hole in the top of the cylinder and air leaks out at a rapid pace. Once the pressure has built up, the air seems to stop leaking. Once i kill the engine, the air again leaks out until both my main air tanks are empty..... this doesn't sound right to me..... can anyone shed some light on this little sucker??
cheers
alex

Do search on here for Kenworth Air diagrams as there has been several posted over the years..
Sounds like you also have leaking check valves in your air tanks as well..
Get the diagram first, & methodically go through the whole system.. would be My advice..

adb, pretty sure that valve in your dash is your "tractor protection valve"

Year, chassis number, single or dual air system?
I'll email some pdf files to save you searching.
Thanks jimbo51,
Its plated as a 1980 KW124CR, Serial number 405035... i'm pretty sure its a dual system as it has two long air tanks that run parallel with the fuel tanks.... there's also a couple of air tanks that sit under the battery box, but they never seem to fill up with any substantial amount of air....
thanks again..
cheers
