Check out “Suicide of a city” on YouTube, about traffic in Sydney 1965. Fantastic footage of trucks and cars of the era. Never realised there were so many Sputnik’s. Peoples attitudes and legislation sure has changed also.

Interesting.

I spotted quite a few cars I've owner and /or driven.

The COE Inter at the beginning was a surprise as they were very rare in Australia.

Also most of the vehicles were less than 10 years old. You wouldn't see that today with plenty of 20 year old vehicles still running.

Drove round the place a bit when there in the army in 1970.
Noticed a lot of Holden and Ford cabs were fitted with a hefty
rolled steel angle to replace the bumpers. Cheeky B's tried to
bluff their way through at intersections. Didn't push their
luck when challenged with the 57 Mainline ute!

Saw a couple of Studebakers, I'm happy.
A few French cars in there, too. Simca Aronde straight up. My first bush basher!

Some things just dont change. A few cant drive within the lane, long lengths hanging out the back of table top trucks, rear vision mirrors must have been an option or the driver had no idea on how to use them as many just open the door and lean out looking backwards to reverse into a drive. Lots holdens over the Fords but found it interesting that even back then they talked about doing deliveries after hours and still nothing has changed there.Could ou imagine what would happen if you had the intersection blocked off and the traffic could not get past you or if you stopped in a pedestrian crossing, they would kick your doors in.
