Got a pic of this poor bloke last week. He was trying to do a u-turn at the Rockhampton roundabout. On the western side there is 2 large parking bays, he was going from one to the other and beached the float on the road. I bet he has never un- chained a grader as fast as he did that day. I think it was a 16G. Only got one pick as i went around it with my phone.

I was talking to him the other day, his float is on air bags with the leveling valve on the rear axle, so he unloaded the grader and then the Volvo just drove off then reloaded.
He was not impressed.
He was surprised about the photo on the net.

I bet he wasn't impressed. Tell him not to worry about it. It's not the first time it's happened.

The airbag suspensions dont have a lot of travel, i got one stuck on wet concrete one night and had to lock the power divider to shift it.

Been there done that with a 4x8 spread brentwood float across the new england highway at Rutherford near Maitland 4 lanes & I got 3 blocked with a 30 ton excavator on board 4PM on Friday afternoon just a quick hop job its siting on its guts .
I have to hook up hydraulic hoses from the rear ramps crawl under the float & put it on the seperate suspension snap on conectors then crawl out & work the leavers on the left side of the float raise it till I get it clear &
it all takes time & the sirens are geting closer all the time .
I get it off first go took about 15 minutes all told had about 3 klm of traffic bouth ways & got the float back down & level again & puting the hydraulic hoses back on the ramps when the mounties arrive.
I am in luck as the bloke has escorted me on some big lifts & we have a good laugh & he call it in as job done .
The good news about my grounding was my boss would not spend the money to change the plumbing on these spread Brentwoods & he got caught driving my rig same job a week later at the same spot but could not un couple the snapon hydraulic conectors as in a panic he didnt let the pressure out of the system before you try & un hook his time 1hour 20 with traffic down to 1 lane each way & coping heaps of passing abuse no police avaliable this time as some traffic was moving at midday the road temprature was about 70C he was crawling about on under the float not a good work place .
The next day the hydraulic hose doctor bloke was there & we lived happly ever after & could raise & lower the floats with the flick of a switch & the turn of a handel as the offender that had blocked the highway that day was named & shamed over the CB radio highway channel on the most used coal haulage route in the state .
All in a days work in the trade of moving big gear .

I used to work in with an "opposition" contractor in a nearby country town, who owned an Allis Chalmers HD-16 dozer, and an ancient tandem Martin Nixon, side-loading low loader, that had a main frame made out of about 8" x 4" boxed channel.
He dragged it with an equally ancient, AEC Mammoth Major, that he salvaged from death at the wreckers .. :D

This poor old float had a bigger bend in the middle from years of overloading, than any sway-backed nag.

He lived right in the middle of the town, and one afternoon he bellied the old float on the crown of the road, whilst swinging around an intersection in town.

Nothing else to do but go up to his yard, get some tyres, unload the HD-16 in the middle of the street .. move the truck and trailer up, and straighten her out .. walk the dozer up the street, and load up again! ;D ;D

Part of a Martin Nixon ad, from 1954 ..
