1975 Dodge D5N 300

I purchased this truck a couple of weeks ago from a local retired farmer. I have known the truck for 45 years, and it has always been well looked after and stored under cover although it hasn't been run for the last 23 years since the farmer retired. I have had a good look over it and so far no rust although I want to have a look in the plenum sometime and also give it a good soaking with fish oil in the usual places. I don't intend to restore the truck, just get it back to a roadworthy condition and register on club plates. No doubt it will get a full resto sometime in the future. So far I have given it a good pressure wash, drained all the fluids including the fuel, removed the 2 master cylinders and 4 slave cylinders for sleeving, 5 of the 6 spark plugs (1 is stuck) and squirted some oil down the cylinders and turned it over by hand. I will work through each of the systems until she is running again.

Does anyone know what the original battery hold down on these looked like?

How about some happy snaps of the Cobra project in the shed?

A piece of light angle (possibly just folded) with holes through the bend at each end, from memory.

With stainless sleeves on the brakes it only leaves the clutch to be done and the biggest mechanical issues of these will be fixed for ever

Looks like a good starting place for a project

You didn't mention the rare '66 Galaxie on the hoist with a 7 litre and manual box.

I had a D5N400 many years ago and it was to me a really reliable little truck
The only issues it ever had was rust, which was like the ex Telecom truck in another thread here, mine was also ex Telecom and brakes if it was parked for a long time

These trucks were quite the handful to steer in a straight line, many years ago on the forum this was bought up and apparently they didn't have very much caster or maybe it was to much caster from new, this made the easier to steer when slow but the down side was you tacked like driving a yacht at speed

The long and short of it was wedges between the front axle and the springs solved this and made them really good to drive

Im sure with enough searching the thread could found on the forum and it has a lot more detail than I can remember

Only because you had it parked in the dark and I was on line at night.

Sleeved cylinders will require 'normal' brake fluid; the silicone stuff will leak out around the sleeves.
