'Day Sharon. I'll assume your 680 Hippo is an Ergo (tilt) cab.
Therefore the only thing that is common on this truck to "a similar looking AEC"
is the cab.
The Hippo is,with the possible exception of the gearbox (may have a RoadRanger),
all Leyland.Chassis,axles,engine(PP680).The lot.
A similar looking AEC would be a TG6 Mammoth Major. All AEC.
It will have an AV690/760 AEC engine,an AEC 6 speed or AEC 12 speed gearbox
(possibly a R/R),AEC double reduction diffs on AEC 4 spring or AEC/Maudslay H/R
diffs on AEC single point (6 rod)suspension.Chassis will be AEC also.
The actual cabin is interchangeable from one truck to the other. There is slight cosmetic differences in the cabs.
The AEC has wider mudguards and the upper part of the front grille has more chrome than the Hippo.Inside the cab the door trim panels on the AEC will be branded with the AEC triangle, the Hippo's will be plain. :)

Welcome any info or pictures of 60s Australian AEC Mustangs (Leyland Comet lookalikes)
