Recently went to get tyres fitted to 79 D1610 (20" 5stud) and 81 Mitsi FK102 tipper (20 X 6 " 6 stud). Tyre store rang to tell me both sets of rims were badly corroded and refused to fit tyres as rims were not roadworthy. Rear duals were by far the worst - tyre place speculated it was because split rim side face each other more likely to get water (and corrosion was worst near gap in the tyre lock ring.

Problem is we use the Mitsi tipper both on the farm and on road to bring in building products for tracks, roads and construction of new house - can get new rims through Mitsi dealer ex Japan but at $750.00 each plus freight it would be worth more than the old girl even though it has been incredibly reliable over last 10 years. Any one know where I can buy replacement wheels or have new wheel bands fitted (and have tried couple of places including guy at Shepparton who were not very helpful) We live in NSW just south of Gunning - email is cga20921@bigpond.net.au

Your best bet would be to try a few wrecking yards, & I wouldn't be surprised if you can't buy new tubeless rims to suit for a lot less than $750 each..

Temporarily, you could buy the tyres loose and fit them yourself, they just won't be balanced. Would get you by until something turns up.

HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED

Ifn it twaz me
n had me life insurance fully paid up
I would assemble rims n tyres n put the gap in the lock rim not near where all the rust iz
put 2- 5 PSI in tyres (jist so the valve stem dun disappear back inside rim)
assemble them up as duels do the wheels studs up F tight n inflate to desired PSI
if the rims did let go they would B fully contained as the 2 lock rims face each other
Tyre Co's dun like do n any of this as it could all fail n cum back 2 bite m on the bum

Have n sed the above .......... not kno n the amount of rust present

Cya

yeah I'd be doing this for the moment and sourcing second handies. They don't balance them anyway. Should be a few inter rims around... Maybe try and measure a few trucks maybe the mitsi's fit others too
