Hey fellas, I need a starter for a P76 or Terrier motor, I have the motor in my boat but the starter carked it, I got the boat going with the starter out of a range rover :D but it still isnt the correct one.

Auto elec tells me its unrepairable and he cannot get a replacement.

Obviously I am willing to pay for a replacement, so over to you lot!

other option is to fit a completely different engine......Im thinking lexus V8 :o cheap, redline 8000rpm.......

I wonder which would be the better Choice in a boat, Lexus or Leyland, seeing they will be under constant Load the torque would be a big Factor.
Whichever Way, The Starter has to be the cheaper Option I guess.
Maybe a early Model Rover one would fit too.

It sucks to get old and decrepit !

im into leyland P76s ... well if a rangie starter fits and it does the job .. . . most P76 starters are going to be close to 40 years old and for reliability should need a rebuild which probably aint going to be cheap :-/

problem solvered ...

If it works, no need to fix it.

Be it firearms or V8 engines, the question is not "why should you have them?"
, but "who are you to demand that I justify them?"

we had to replace the starter in a landrover discovery , we ended up putting in a new gear reduction job for under $400 versus $875. I am lead to believe there are replacements available for almost any starter

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's a Pom on eBay who has a starter for the Terrier .. but he neglects to state what motor. At least he has cross-reference numbers and nose cone part number, that will help you as to whether it's the one you're looking for.
He ships worldwide, and the starter is only $200.

I might be barking up the wrong tree here .. it could be a little diesel that was fitted to the Terrier .. but maybe an email to the seller might produce the right starter.

Another thought .. would your starter be the same starter as fitted to the Triumph Stag V8?

chances are the starter would be for the 6.247 perkins "motor" the add says 1971? ...P76s were released in 73 .. the truimph stag motor was unrelated to the rover/P76 motors ...(altho most Stags in OZ have by now been fitted with the leyland or rover V8)

::) leave it parked on a hill ... ...

Just had a look, diesel starter is bigger than the V8 starter.
V8 starter does however, look similar to a Ford V8 starter. Bit hard to investigate further atm as my Ford stuff is buried way deep in the shed ... :-/

AFAIK the Terrier didn't get the V8 until about 75 ?
