Thanks Bigcam, I'll keep that in mind.

Well the past few days have been productive, albeit slow. I removed the rest of the injectors and filled the cylinders with oil to soak overnight, and also drained the sump. I let out 10 odd litres of water from the sump before the oil came out, but it was clean which is a good sign. Next, I separated the hydraulic pump drive coupling, as I didn't want any crud circulating while I get the engine running.

I put some batteries in the old girl, switched the key on and got some warning lights and flickering gauges, which was promising. I checked around for any smoke leaking out of the wiring, but it was all good...

So I hit the key, and thunk! That's it. So I try it again and same thing. Bugger. I get my prybar and turn the engine back that few degrees I turned it the other day. I tried the key again, and this time it turned a little farther. I kept on doing this until I got it all the way around. I put the oil filter back together, primed the oil system by pulling the pressure switch out and using a little thumb pump until I got oil running out of the sump bung. The bung went back in, oil in the sump and hit the key again.

You beauty, she spins around as free as a bird with 30psi on the gauge...

With that taken care of, I thought I'd check the injectors.
All of them tested good with only a 200 pound difference between them except the two that were in contact with the water. One dribbled badly, and I actually broke the other getting it out.

The nut that retains the nozzle had come loose and allowed the nozzle to turn, breaking the pins that locate it the injector body. Not to worry, a quick call to the tractor wreckers and two more are on the way.

Now to drain the water from the hydraulic system. Pulled the bung out and drained out about 100 litres of water. I'm guessing it got in through the rusted out oil cooler...

I took the lid off the tank and this is what I found. The fitters are actually screens, so they should clean up ok.

Tomorrow I'll clean out the tank and start making up some pipes to bypass the cooler.

Thanks for the progress.
I have gone to railway sources seeking confirmation that railmotor 7 really does have a Chevrolet six: with that radiator, and the length, I suspect a four.

Enclosed are two views of one of the railway's Malcolm Moore locos, and two views of one surviving at Kerrisdale Mountain Railway (Vic.), obtained from a Queensland sugar mill.

The type was build in Melbourne for WWII service, and locos went to various overseas theatres. They were sold at the end of the war, and went to various locations.
The type was built with a Ford V8 engine: the Lune River ones still had them; the KMR one seems to have been reengined.
What clues would have identified the Ford one if the make had been unknown? Was it the only V8 available in the 1930s? Rolls Royce had a V12: probably too expensive.

Wanted Bedford KM was created by TheSaff
Expanding my original wanted from the KMR XT5 now to all KM's built around 1970. Being a bit more open minded to what's out there. Any condition - all of interest.

Cheers for the tips on photo uploading. I'm new to this site. Depending on what turns up, happy to do a full restoration - ground up. It's a long term project that I have been meaning to start for a while. Appreciate the responses and I'll give them a look.

Copy the IMG code, then paste the IMG code on to your post mate. Dale Barnard has one for sale, the motor is in a thousand pieces in a box on the back, the cabin is rusty and has had a bit of a hit on the left hand front, and apart from those couple of things it's great. How much restoring where you planning on doing?

If its genuine its a KMR XT5. It looks genuine, I dont think it would be hard to convert a TK cab to a KM, wider mudguards, headlight bar and guage cluster, there might be some other items aswell.
