Bedford J1 Specifications was created by Blugreen
Hi.
I was initially looking for a Dodge AT4 pickup but I have now decided that I need a little more weight capacity in the back so am looking at a Bedford J1.
Does anyone have the specs (weight, dimensions etc).
Thanks.
Mark

Hi Bluegreen the J1 is 30cwt or 750 kilo but will handle 1 ton or more no worries I have had many of these and other Beddies, and have lots of parts im currently restoring a J1 from the chassis up, it was originally a van there are pics of it on the forum, it will have a tray on it now and the cab off a J2 tow truck, pics of that here somewhere too, they are a good little truck to restore but getting hard to find now and more expensive......feel free to contact me for any more info you need......julian

A little confused. I thought 30cwt was 1 1/2 ton?
Cheers, ASW.

30cwt is about 1.5 ton
T+B magazine 1972 gives chassis weight of 3768 or 3836lbs ( might depend on tyres fitted ) and GVM of 6496 or 7480lbs .
Check the makers plate on anything you are buying.

Well my little XP ute is rated at 10 cwt which translates to around 500kg or about 1/2 tonne so that confirms BigCams calculations.

Some J1s were rated as 1 ton capacity, from memory just had skinnier tyres.

An old paper bag of cement = 1 Cwt = 20 to the ton. All hand loaded and stacked. That was back when men were real men.
