I know stuff my inter acco is relatively cheap .. But then again if one brand of older truck needs parts replaced more often it is no longer cheap to maintain

You also need to compare apples with apples.

Are you talking trucks all the same age?

Any inter is older than my wife, and a lot more worn!

I am looking for a med-light truck and have been warned about astronomical price of UD spares and that Isuzu is the way to go. From experience doing up a Volvo of that age is about third the cost of American gear as there are lots of non genuine parts about.

Currently running a Isuzu and the part prices are reasonable. In the lighter class of trucks, I think they are the pick of the bunch. However in the Bogie drive configuration, they are out of my price range. So looking at other makes with the Mercs being some of the cheapest to buy.

looking at trucks makes me :D

The Trucks you're talking about are all 30(odd) years old...
so you will more than likely have to rely on the Non genuine aftermarket suppliers for your Parts.
Of which there are plenty. for all the brands you mention.

I'd suggest make a list of a few parts & price out each brand to see which is cheaper.

another thing about inter parts - they're the only one on that list that by and large uses non-proprietary parts. As in volvo will need all volvo parts, hino will need all hino parts, where as inter are made up of 3rd party bits with an in house body and chassis, so finding parts should in theory be easier all things considered. And you can tap into the US parts network if you get desperate where the quantity and price becomes pretty attractive, if dampened by the freight and current exchange rate.

As we all know parts prices can vary from one outlet to another. always pays to shop around. Was looking for a starter for the 318 I just put in my Dodge. Here new around 450+, good mmm s/hand 200 mmm! Out of states 230 in my hands. (freight more than cost of starter) makes it hard to keep money in aus when they luv 100% mark up. Same thing when I rebuilt the hydraulic pump on the Massey. 1/2 the price out of England than 10km up the road.
