Dodges

Tassie Dans Dodge is a fine looking vehicle. Anybody know when this shape/model production started/ finished? I guess the AT4 then DN5 series followed?
What was their competition in that era?

Others on here will have more exact dates, but recall the Dodge Power Giants
like Dan's operated by Coulson Transport pulling bogie semis early 1960's.
Better power than the Internationals of the day.
AT4 probably started about 1962 along with the AA Internationals.
Cabins much the same, but found the Dodges driving position more comfy.
Old boss reckoned the Internationals were the best of the small trucks,
with Ford, Dodge and Bedford. Just his view as an owner.

I am guessing the bigger models came with the v8 engine or was it an option right across the range? A guy stopped me at the tip today as I was taking a load of green waste out there and he said when he was a kid in Nsw he used to deliver milk and ride on the running board while his boss drove the same model dodge so I guess there was a few about the place.

Dan's model were available with the flat top 6, honest and simple.
Larger tray and prime movers with that cab could have a 313 ( IIRC ) V8.
Then the 318 V8 was fitted into the AT4 larger trucks. Smaller ones the slant 6.
D5N could be 245 - 6 cyl, 318 or 361 V8.
Older truck motors wore fairly quickly mainly due to dirty air on poor roads.
Many were blown up, so earlier trucks were fitted with later model engines.
So Dodge was running V8 motors well before IH put the V345 in the AB series
about 1964. Ford ran side valve V8s until 1955, then the OHV 292 V8. Then they
used the 300 - 6 cyl and their Ford diesels. Bedfords ran various 6s.
The Dodge and International trucks were popular, so yes, a few about the place.

I think the Power Giants were the last couple of years of that cab,maybe 57-60,...Works had a 7 series Power Giant with the new 361 motor .....it used to carry single flagpoles on a jinker,and really flew ...maybe 70 mph.......All motors seem to have worn pretty quick in those days....a 6/354 Perkins was stuffed by 100,000...some cars needed rebores at 40,000 but Holdens would generally hit 100,000 ,....Although 71 series GM s would go much bigger milages .........and miles not kilometers

Tired Iron, getting back to your original question about when that style was first introduced, the style was known as the Pilot House cab due to the extra windows and better vision. It was first produced in 1948 in the lighter models, including Fargo and Desoto, and continued into the early '60s.
