Hi roland ,Ireckon you made the wrong decision. You should have took the job, sent the wife by ship so you would have every thing setup and right, waiting for when she arrived. No more cold wet english weather, Beautifull australian weather .No Stop WRONG,True enough if you got to come to beautifull sunny queensland. Not the case in melbourne, but i guess the weather would have stopped you getting homesick. I should ask swishy so he can explain to me what keeps people in melbourne. Mate i hope you really enjoy your vist .ian.

G'day Roland, Just in regard to your item about the Austin 1800, myself and others were always under the impression that they were built at the Leyland plant which was located in Zetland, a suburb of Sydney. This plant also built the P76.
Maybe others can clarify as well?

G'Day
I was obviously wrong about the 1800 being a Melbourne product.
In 1971 I did some work on the Tasman ute, which never went into production.
I definitely had paperwork with the name 'Fishermans Bend' on .
Maybe the Kimberley and Tasman were built there ?
Cheers

Hi Kenny
Yes I clearly remember the Tasman Ute, with its 6 cylinder engine was quite a beast. It had a bed about 2.5m long.
Went like the clappers, and built like a Brick Dunny.
I dont know why it did not go into production.
It may have worked in Europe, although a bit heavy for UK.
In the early '70s there were NO real 'utes available in the UK...
and then there was Toyota !
Cheers

Ours only had a 1.8 4cyl donk. The rear springs were cart springs and the handling when empty was lethal.
