General Motors Corp. built Samson trucks after William 'Billy' Crapo Durant bought out the Samson Tractor Works in an attempt to best Henry Ford, whom he hated. GMC built two different Samson trucks from 1920 to 1923 at its Flint, Mich., and Janesville, Wis., plants: the M-25, a 1 1/4-ton truck, which sold for $1,095, and the M-15, which was much more successful. Both trucks were built for farm use and were fitted with extension rims, which had plain cleats in front and shallow cleats in the rear for ease of driving over plowed fields. They only were built from 1920 to 1923 because Durant's egomania drove GMC to the brink of bankruptcy by then.

The Samson Iron Works of Stockton, California built the Samson Sieve-Grip tractor. General Motors under W.C. (Billy) Durant bought the company, by then known as the Samson Sieve-Grip Tractor Company in 1917. In 1918 GM bought the Janesville Machine Company of Janesville, Wisconsin and in 1919 closed the Stockton factory and transferred Samson tractor production to Janesville. GM shut down the unprofitable Samson Tractor Division-by then also making the Samson trucks, in 1923. The Janesville plant continued to be used by the Chevrolet Division of GM until 2008.
The Alden Sampson Manufacturing Company, originally of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and later part of the United States Motor Company had no connection to Samson Iron Works or General Motors.

1906 - American Motor Truck Company - In 1906, the American Motor Truck Company (1906-1912) built an experimental chaindrive 4x4 truck with four-wheel steering.
In 1911, the company marketed a line of similar 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 ton 4x4 trucks. Like the prototype, the axles were a platform type and pivoted in the center, complete with springs. The trucks used horizontally opposed 2 or 4 cylinder engines of 20 to 60 hp and had top speeds from 8 to 15 MPH. The transmission was a two-speed, planetary design.

Both Doane and MacDonald built lowbed trucks in California, but I've never seen a cabover version of either, so I don't know.

Swishy: You picked a good one this time, and we think hybrids are something new,
you could get these as all electric or gas [petrol]powering a dynamo with an electric motor in each wheel,
4 wheel drive & 4 wheel steer and 4 wheel brakes not bad for 1904 +
And no I am not looking over your shoulder :-?
Loosley ;) :D
