Fageol

the business careers of Frank R. and William B. Fageol, two of the four Fageol (pronounced fadjl) brothers, Rollie, Frank, William and Claud, an amazingly productive family of French, Prussian and Welsh descent who held over 125 US Patents between them, many of which were influential in the development of early motor trucks and buses. The Fageols held numerous early automobile distributorships and were responsible for the manufacture of the Fadgl road train, Fageol automobile, Fageol motor truck, Fageol tractor, Fageol Safety Coach, Eight-Wheel Motor bus and truck, and the Twin Coach bus and Twin Coach/Fageol line of delivery trucks.

Not many people realise Fageol saved Kingsford Smith's financial hide. They sponsored his attempt on the world aircraft endurance record at Oakland California. He just missed out on the prize but the publicity convinced Hancock (to whom Kingsford Smith had sold the Southern Cross) to loan it to him for the Pacific flight to Brisbane. On arrival Hancock signed the aircraft back over to Kingsford Smith.

Kenworth Fire Truck

During the Great Depression, Kenworth began designing custom-built fire trucks to meet the requirements of each fire department the company served.

The story of Kenworth is one of innovation and adaptation. It’s a story of a company that wasn’t content to rest following its initial successes, but instead made the changes necessary to be successful, even when times got tough. The first 40 years and change of Kenworth’s history are replete with examples of adjusting on the fly to meet the demands of the day, and it serves as a foundation for what the company would become in the years to follow
