I need a new hose about 4 inch diameter, runs from the fibre glass adaptor on the air cleaner to the bend to the turbo on my 1976 R model.I tried Macks and got the wrong one and they seemed to think it was going to be hard to find it or maybe they didn't want to.I also got a piece from Adelaide Belt and Hose but that is to light .Does anyone know of an after market source for hose suitable for this job.

Hi Ronnie, is your Mack a Maxidyne or a Coolpower, because they have different hose setups, because of the different angles of the turbo. Swishys truck has the later type hoses and pipes, which are different to the early ones. In 1976 the fixed cab was the standard but if you have the Airbag cab you need the later type, to allow for the forward and back movement of the cab. Maybe yours might have the earlier one. On my old one, I had to extend the fibreglass piece which fits onto the air cleaner and then I used silicon hose to join up. Cheers - Kav.

Thanks Swishy and Kav.Yes mine is the rigid cab. I am not having a lot of luck this harvest. Our other Mack 1980 after fitting a new clutch assembly before last harvest has a collapsed thrust bearing,So this old girl which was waiting for some restoration work was pulled out of the shed a quick service and put to work running on only the front diff, hence Swishy why I was trying to look through my earlier posts for the one from you with the printer friendly Mack gearboxes. This one has a 6 speed with 2 sticks.5 on main stick and high low and reverse on the other.Anyway I have been having a ball juggling those sticks with no clutch, as it needs 2 feet to push it down but today after 49 loads developed bad noise in gearbox,so now I have no Macks.

Hi Ronnie - check the rear output bearing on the 6 speed - they seem to do them occasionally - Kav.

Hi Ronnie, Yes you can check it by lifting the tailshaft, and you can replace it from the outside. Usually you get a vibration in the tailshaft. Dont forget that a noise in the front diff can sound as if it is in the Gearbox - I've had that happen before and it was in the power divider or the front of the diff and the noise goes up the tailshaft. The 6 speed box is usually very reliable and trouble free. We had one that we worked for 18 years and we only saw inside it once. - Kav.
