Vintage Truck Retrieval

Hi all,

Looking to purchase an AS-160. Most of them appearing are in mid to north NSW. This is a problem as they're generally not drivable and also I don't have an MR license to drive them anyway.

Wondering if anybody has a decent vintage tray truck of some sort that I could throw some cash for fuel, meals and accommodation in return for bringing it back to Victoria for me? Would accompany to pick up and home again. Not sure if its a big ask and understand if its not a possibility.

Many of us have been down this path .

What you need to do is work out what fuel, accommodation for two blokes for at least two nights and meals are going to cost.

It is nearly always cheaper for a long range pick-up to get it carted. May take a while for convenient carriers eg a suitable truck visiting the farm and getting it into town to go on regular transport. You might be able to do a deal with the seller to get it to a pick-up point or maybe you are lucky and it is near enough to a regular route for the carrier to drop in.

Not saying you should not have the fun of picking it up but after you do a realistic costing you will be surprised how much you have to play with to contract the job out.

If I don't accompany not bothered, but if it makes it easierm, can just contract a local to do it. Any recommendations for mid north NSW?

Contact Swishy on here thru a PM or email. He is in the Tilt Tray business and might know of an operator in either your pick up or destination area that can help you.

Pretty much as Lang has said

I like adventure so I grab my on gear most of the time

Generally time blows out as does budget

But if its adventure your chasing this the way to do it

Supply all info Make and model of truck include Length , width, Height, weight .... exact address of pickup and delivery (make sure it is one item to cart (the Truck) no loose items

Thanks for the suggestions. Truck is up for auction starting tomorrow and is located about 40km out of Coonabarabran. Looking for a way to get it back to Macedon Ranges in Vic.

If I had the equipment myself I'd absolutely go and get it. But at 6.7 meters long and probably around 2.5 tonnes its wayyy too big for just a standard ute and trailer setup.

I've got the exterior dimensions with the exception of the height and the actual weight and there is loading ramp nearby.

Dimensions as follows:

Overall length: 6.7m
Wheelbase: 4.4m
Overall Width: 2.4m
Width over rear wheels 2.25m

I think I'll throw it up on a load board assuming I make the purchase. Figured I'd ask around here first for ideas and advice or to see if anybody felt like an adventure! If anybody does, feel free to send a PM.

A fair bit of freight goes to mines (Narrabri, Boggabri, Gunnedah closest in this case) without a return load so there should be reasonable capacity, but might have to be in two stages eg to depot at Newcastle/Sydney, thence to Melbourne.
That load represents 10 pallets of deck space, general carriers will quote at a pallet rate.
