Leyland Crusaders in Australia

Leyland Crusaders in Australia was created by paulc20
Just checked the paperwork on my Crusaders. Chassis no. of the 1976 is WHV52231, my 1973 is WHV52232, so running numbers but the later vehicle has the earlier number.
I believe WHV means Watford Heavy Vehicles, which was the Scammell Factory.
So, did the come to Aus as knocked down kits or complete vehicles? How many were sold here. My 76 model is the heavier spec model, longer chassis, bigger diffs, 65t rated on rego.
Perhaps it sat around at Leyland for a few years until they could sell it? The paperwork I got with it indicates rust and waterleaks through the roof of the cab when new.

Hi Detective
Engine number of the 76 was 8VA135224 according to the original CAGA Lease Purchase Agreement documents.
Perhaps some GM expert can tell us the year of the engine.

Lancashire built Leylands had date related sequential numbers but that was not the case with all manufacturers. For example Thornycroft created batches of numbers for a particular model, maybe 10 or 100 at a time, so even though the batches might have been more or less sequential at the time of allocation by the time the actual trucks left the factory they could be years apart. Maybe Scammell had a similar mad system.

I had this with a couple of locally assembled CKD cars I had. 2 Rambler Matadors, the earlier number car was complianced later, although I was led to believe they were all assembled in one batch and sold over a 4 year period. I was told they were complianced as they were sold.
Possibly a similar situation?
Jarrod.

Swish,(at the risk of being a smartar$e) You should've checked That before plonking your hard earned on the Table..
'cause rest assured when you go to trade it In,
They'll value it as a '13 model............

I signed up to buy a new car once and was a little suspicious about the age so I asked the salesman "what is the build date on these" . He assured me it would be no older than 3 months, so I scribbled that on the contract next to my signature.
Then I go to pick up the gleaming beauty and the salesman was trying to stop me looking under the bonnet. When I did I find it is about 18 months old so I nicely ask for a price cut. They say no and I tell them where to park their "new" car and point out the not so fine scribble on the front of the contract. After a couple of weeks I got my deposit back and bought a new car off somebody else.
