Spicer 8016 transmission ratios

Hi All,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to look up Dana-Spicer 8016 series transmission ratios? I am looking for the O.E.M. numbers.

Reckon anyone who may have an old KW, Peterbilt even an Autocar book that was equipped with the original twin stickers may have them . Trouble is they used many variations, some direct, some overdrive, some cast iron, some aluminium, even seen one with the deep reduction (non split) first gear in the auxilliary. Tried a couple of US sites, found data on P8516 Air shift models, but reckon the earlier ones were different.
Any help appreciated, thanks.Dave.

Hi Dave .. the compound Spicers in the mid 60's Peterbilts out here only really had a couple of variations...

8016 5A......800 lb/ft torque rating, 16 forward speeds aluminium case, direct ratios

8016 5B..... '' '' aluminium case, overdrive ratios

8016 3A..... '' '' steel case direct ratios

8016 3B..... '' '' steel case overdrive ratios

...there were quite a few other variants with the main and auxillary boxes, but suffice to say that the compounds with ''A'' ratios were direct, ''B'' were overdrive and the ''3'' or ''5'' dictated what material the case was made out of...aluminium or steel.

...Kenworths received the 8516 Spicer compound which had an 850 lb/ft capacity as well as the myriad main and auxillary boxes fitted to these also back in the day 8-) 8-)

....hope that helps mate.....cheers

Phil,
Thanks for that, have the gist of the designations, now all I have to do is sit down with a calculator and work out the ratios of each main and auxilliary from the PROGESSIVE ratios that Swishy supplied. I do remember Truck & Bus Transportation used to print an annual transmission update, back around the 70's. Someone may have an old copy they can post. Just on that KW using the 8016 as well as the 8516, I thought that the latter only ever came out over here as the 'P' version, in other words the one with the air shift. Probably wrong again!

Those early Alltrans Pete's (well, at least one I know of) came out with the DIRECT box, but was of the progressive type, NOT the deep reduction one. Again, I do stand correcting. The two single drives of Eastoes, as well as Ted Fergurson's cabover, both had the PROGRESSIVE overdrive units. And that's about all I remember of them.

Cheers, Dave.

Swishy,

Once again, thanks. I was way out in my calculations, either a crook calculator/adding machine or have forgotten basic mathematics 101.
And yes, did have me socks off!
Cheers, Dave
