Thames Trader

Oh no. He's done it again.... Just paid a deposit on a Thames Trader (normal control).
Not too sure year but I presume '62-'65.
Numbers it has are;
Serial Prefix: NPRAC or NPPAC
Serial No: 933
Model: 84552
Stamped onto firewall: 83112SPMC090
GVM: 23,600lbs or 10,575kg.
Door shows GCM: 17,250kg.
Can anyone help with year? Were these manufactured here or Britain?

Mine is similar to this one (but a lot more faded )

Heycharger, I'm pretty sure they are Built in Germany, with the same running gear as the D series fords.
Quite often referred to as a "K" series..

These were designed and built in Koln, Germany for the German Market and known as the Ford FK (Ford Koln). Later they were built in Dagenham, England and called the Thames Trader NC (Normal Control). Then the name was changed to Ford Trader K Series and later still to just Ford K Series.

The bloke My parents used to lease a servo off on the Putty road at Nth Wilberforce had one of those but it was heavier he was the local BP Distributor, I think it had the Diesel in it the same as the D series

After a lot of research on the 'net, I'm pretty sure it's a early '60's 7ton. Very happy .

The 6 cylinder diesel engine in the K series was a traditional vertical style of engine with an inline injection pump. I think it was just a 6 cylinder version of the 4 cylinder diesel engine in Power Major and Super Major Fordson tractors. I think it may have been what is called the 590E motor.

The 6 cylinder Diesel engine in the D Series Ford Trucks was a 'sloper'. leaning to the left. There were 360 cubic inch and 380 cubic inch versions. The early ones had a rotary injection pump. I think there were quite a few differences between the vertical and sloper motors.

I had a 1967 D800 D Series truck, a Power Major and a Super Major Fordson Tractor.

This particular one has a 6cyl petrol (300ci I think), 5 speed g/box and should have a 2-speed diff. Will find out more when it arrives :

My Father had a D750 with a 330CI Diesel motor.

Geoff, You used to be able to buy a conversion kit to fit the 360 & 380T D series engines into Fordson tractors.
the Kit included another Sump so you could stand them up straight..
