Hi all, We have a MB 1424 , that has had 4 little batteries on it. It looks like it used to have 2 big batteries originally. I think it may have been an ex fuel truck as it has a on/off switch beside the cab. I was wondering if anybody would know how to hook up properly as have 2 large batteries for it now. It also has another box on the side of the battery box that has 2 large battery cables on it also. Will try and attach some photos .
Cheers. Tony

Tony - It has a series/parallel switch so that it gets 24V for the starter and 12V for the rest (lights, radio, heater etc etc). whether you use 4 x 6V or 2 x 12V doesn't really matter. If you use 6V, you have 2 pairs wired in series to essentially make 2 12V batteries. The other switch will just be an isolation switch. If it was working OK before with 4 x 6V batteries then the wiring is easy. I will send you a private message with the details.

I'm surprised to see a "Series parallel" Switch on a Benz (pic 4)..!!

I thought Benz's were all straight 24 Volt..!!

This may be of assistance. When I had my Volvo F86 a couple of times I ran into 12volt only with bad contacts in the magic box. If the truck was hot it could just start on 12volt but cold absolutely no hope. A bloke a lot smarter than me showed me how to jump the terminals (not as straight forward as you would think). This article as well as explaining the system shows you how to get out of trouble.
