I think Southbound & Mairjimmy may have nailed it down as IHC (sort of)
I went out today and had a look at it with some of the mates that saw it last week. It definitely "does not have" the IHC logo on it anywhere, but what it does have is a serial number beginning with "C", it is C131-4369, so I recon that number would translate to IHC. It also has an "auto lite" distributor, and to my surprise a "Tilotson" carburettor model YR2. I measured the length of the head, and it is smaller than I thought with the total length of the head being 25"

Did you get the model number from the distributor? That will often take you straight to it.

Jarrod, I thought we had, but just looking at the photo it looks like there is another letter for the prefix under the "crud" at the beginning of the number. "?B4032A" I will have to check again when next out there.

The Hercules 6 in the amtracks had a Tillotson carby......but an updraft marine type with a drip tray...........curiouser is the heavy ribs along the side that correspond to the heavy reinforced front mount.....looks to be an industrial motor ,solid enough for a crawler tractor .

A better view of the sides !
I was assuming the raised section was either a stiffener or an oil gallery !

In cannot be of any help regarding the six but the OHV 4 cylinder head next to it is a 1927 or 1928 Chevrolet or Pontiac. I could give you the casting date if you tell me the cast code letters on the top of the head.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I think maybe it is a Willys engine, possibly built for a 1933 International D1. I think Inters used their "own" (same) engine from the D2 onward.

Google seems to think 1933 Willys engine numbers start with C.

The Willys path might be worth further investigation?

More research now makes me pretty certain it is from a Willys model C131 light truck, about 1932 or '33.
