Podge has organised for the HCVC to have a display at the Lilydale Show this weekend to publicize the club and our event at Sandown next weekend. I think it will be small but should be fun.

The Inter will be there Saturday but Sunday it will be at the Eltham Festival where my Engine Club are displaying. Of course it isplanned to take it to Sandown too (after I vote for an Oxygen Thief - some people call them politicans)

I was at Lilydale on the Saturday but never got the camera out.

Sunday I was at the Eltham Festival with the Eltham Steam & Stationary Engine Preservation Society where I am also a member. I took the Inter straight from Lilydale and he truck raised a lot of interest and brochures for sandown were taken by several (including one potential new member) who is going to come to the show to find others with similar vehicles for advice. With only 6 ESSEPS members present the display at Eltham was a good corss section with 5 stationary motors, one tractor and my Inter.

and one member's creativity. The lizard is made from one piece of corrugated iron.

Also walking to the dunny I had to pass some political parties stands. On the way back a 'member' of the Greens accused me (because I was waring my ESSEPS shirt) of wasting thousands of litres of fuel and adding to global warming by running the stationary engines and 'that dirty diesel truck which would have used 100 litres of fuel just to get here''. I tried to point out that each of the 5 engines went through 2 maybe 3 litres of petrol all day and the truck was petrol not diesel. He then informed me that "all trucks have always been diesel' and 'it is our policy to sieze all these polluting machines and turn them into bicycles' I complained at the tent and they took no notice of me. What sort of people run tihis party!! Maybe they should make a donation to ESSEPS and the HCVC as an apology for the members remarks.

Nothing like some informed comment from a political party, hey Bruce? ::)

Wonder how they got to the show and if they were handing out paper pamphlets...

I sent an email complaining to the contact email on their website and alady rang with an apology. She said they had attracted 'members whose enthusiasm overrode their common sense' and that they should try and ensure that 'appropriate people' manned tents at displays like this. I

She went on to explain that her father also restored old machinery and there was no way she could support recycling it as the environmental impact was small in overall terms.

She then apologised again and said she was going to find out what had happened. I said that if I had been baiting the volunteers at her parties stand then fair enough but that I should be free to walk down a pathway without being abused and she agreed.
