Diesel in drums

Diesel in drums was created by jeffo
Just had to fill my diesel drums on the servo driveway. (out of the boot)
I'm apparently too small for an overhead tank from the distributor so I buy my dieso in 4-gallon drums.
Mostly it's a trailer full. Once the old bloke said forget the drums, he'd just fill up the trailer.
He was Ampol and a real character.
Then it became Matilda with another set of rules but yet no problem filling dieso drums in the boot.
Now it's someone else and they're very concerned.
As a kid, I'd burn the cane tops using an open 4-gallon tin of dieso and a rag on a steel rod.
When the flaming rag got tired, dunk it straight into the open tin of dieso, flames got drowned and rag was re-wet.
Then re-light it from some burning tops and continue on.
Nobody died.
Must be getting old.

Lots of servos in country areas have groundng leads beside the pumps to attach to vehicles with tanks or drums in the back

Also risk of vapours getting into vehicles. More so with petrol than diesel, but rules apply universally.

If you don't warrant your own overhead tank, won't they deliver 200 litre drums now either?

It wasn't all bad news.
When I went to pay, the cashier said I could fill drums in my boot at the "big" bowser, the one out on the yard for trucks.
Apparently they're concerned about fumes collecting under the awning at the ordinary pumps??
Annnnnnnyway.

Jeffo, why don't you get yourself a tandem axle fuel tanker trailer? It sure beats filling up all of those jerry cans.

Everybody up here has them, in addition to their overhead tanks, and the fuel companies are all to keen to keep them full, whether is 500 litres or 5000.

Yes the brother-in-law has one of them, pretty flash but too expensive for this old codger.
I needed something mobile to re-fuel the digger and did kick off with 44's but the hand pump was too slow so I used 4-gallon drums instead. (Have dozens of them)
Easy to lift up to the digger, tractors etc.
But things have slowed for me now, I'm only maintaining the property thus no more big fuel usage.

Jeffo, these are the ones I'm talking about and they can be bought for much cheaper. I've seen several on Gumtree, of similar size, for around the $500 mark.

Hi Jeffo .. do you have, or can you borrow a diesel truck ?...

...fill'er up at the servo, then when you get back just de-cant with a good size "jiggler" siphon hose into the 20 litre drums :) :)
