That idea sounds like one of those classic Ford blunders and needs that circle around the name Ford.

.About Ford engine numbers.........
I had a 1966 XR Falcon............one of the first into the country............
20 years after i bought it i got a letter from the RTA (at the time ) to have the eng number checked with a
blue slip obtained...........
The bloke couldnt find a number on the engine and you have no idea the problems that caused...........
What happened was .........the chassis number was stamped on the left suspension tower and this
was what Ford used as the engine number..........
So on the rego papers the engine number was the same as the chassis number..........
To top it off the rego bloke was as stroppy as all hell and wanted to impound the car as being stolen
because he couldnt find the eng number after telling me he was a Ford specialist..........
Yeah ,,,,Police got involved as well as..............
Took a few days to sort that one out..................
...................Billy....................

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

Similar story here Billy, Back in the 60's I had VW beetle and a VW buggy. Both registered. A couple of years later I got a visit from the then Dept of Motor Transport inspectors. Their problem was, both cars had the same engine number.

They insisted on doing a full compliance check on both cars, the beetle first. All good, number checks out. Now for the buggy, which was in the workshop minus engine. They took some convincing that I only had one engine and being a VW workshop, only about half an hour to swap over. They couldn't get their minds around the fact that I could only drive one at a time, so only needed one engine in which ever car I wanted to use, seasons depending.
In the end, they couldn't find any regulations to say what I was doing wasn't legal and left, shaking their heads.

When I was doing registrations in 1977, 8 & 9 lots of fords models had identical chassis and engine numbers, also very common to have all breeds of vehicles arrive without engine numbers..... We just issued new ones and some were stamped by them/us on site some came back for a viewing.

As suggested, re-power engines were usually the blank ones. Numbers were always put in the place where factory designated. We had the bible with all the number locations recorded and factory examples. Our numbers were either VP prefix or V ...... P., MRB (now VicRoads) did similar numbers.

Very True, Sarge.. 4 of the 6 Louisville's I've Owned over the years had 2 Engine Numbers.. !
1st one was the Ford Chassis number (& the one on the rego papers) & the 2nd one was; Engine manufacturer issued Number..

About 18yrs ag I bought a B Double Lead Trailer off a Very Large National Company. Upon closer Inspection It had 2 Chassis Numbers..!! one matched the invoice the other matched the (S.A.) Rego papers...
When I went to register it in N.S.W. talk about a Cluster**&^ The Police Forensic Unit became involved & they Didn't know %^& from Clay.
Ended being issued a new Chassis Number & stamping X's through the 2 old Numbers..
Was a Great way of wasting 2 weeks of My time & money..!!
